Overview
MCR are seeking an experienced Senior Safety Manager to act as the client representative on a flagship data centre construction project in Melbourne.
This is a high-profile, site-based opportunity for a hands-on safety leader who thrives in the field rather than behind a desk.
The Role:
- Serve as the client's eyes and ears on site, overseeing all safety performance and risk management
- Collaborate closely with the principal contractor, subcontractors, and commissioning teams
- Champion hazard identification, risk controls, permit systems, and safe work method statements — particularly around high voltage, electrical isolation, and commissioning activities
- Lead incident investigations, safety audits, and toolbox talks while fostering a zero-harm mindset
- Proven background in general contracting or principal contractor environments
- Extensive experience managing safety on large-scale, complex construction projects involving significant high voltage elements, hazardous works, and strict commissioning/completion requirements
- Strong preference for candidates who enjoy full-time on-site presence and leading safety in dynamic, high-risk settings
- Data centre experience is highly regarded but not essential — priority is given to transferable expertise from heavy industrial, infrastructure, energy, or large commercial projects with HV electrical scope
- Demonstrated ability to drive a proactive safety culture, manage subcontractors, conduct rigorous inspections, and ensure compliance with Victorian WHS legislation and project-specific standards
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or certifications (e.g., Cert IV in WHS, Lead Auditor, or equivalent) preferred
