Tokyo or Osaka, Japan
I’m currently partnering with a major digital infrastructure developer to find an Engineering Manager for their team in Japan. They are scaling their footprint in the region and need a sharp, design-focused lead who can bridge the gap between technical engineering and customer-facing solutions.
The Role
This isn't a "back-office" design job. You will be the technical face of the business in Japan, representing the firm in high-level meetings with consultants, vendors, and contractors. The focus here is on innovative thinking, we want someone who can look at a technical solution and find ways to make it faster to build, more energy-efficient, and more cost-effective without sacrificing quality.
A massive part of this role is sales engineering. You’ll be liaising directly with hyperscale and enterprise customers to understand their technical needs, develop concept designs, and walk them through engineering information packs during the sales process.
What we’re looking for
The hiring manager is specifically looking for an expert who is heavy on the electrical side but understands mechanical systems well enough to coordinate a full MEP brief.
- 7-10 years of experience: You should have a solid track record in construction or engineering development, specifically within data centres or similarly complex mission-critical environments.
- Electrical Core: Your primary expertise should be in electrical design and power systems, with a secondary grasp of mechanical/HVAC requirements.
- Bilingual Fluency: You must be able to negotiate and direct technical meetings in both Japanese and English.
- Project Controls: You know your way around risk management, contract administration, and project delivery schedules.
- Technical Tools: Professional experience with BIM processes, 3D design tools, and 4D/5D design principles is essential.
- Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a relevant built environment field.
This business is moving fast. It’s a chance to move away from a "cog in the machine" environment and actually influence how major campuses are developed in Japan. You’ll have a seat at the table for some of the biggest digital infrastructure projects in the region, working in a culture that values proactive problem-preventers.
If you’re someone who stays calm when priorities shift and meticulous about the details, let’s have a conversation.
